Janie Martin, DVM

Dr. Martin is a coal miner’s daughter from Southwest Virginia. She completed her undergraduate study at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, and received her B.S. In Biology in 2002. After college graduation, Dr. Martin worked as a laboratory technician at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. In 2004, she was accepted into the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia, and graduated with her DVM in 2008. Dr. Martin moved to Johnson City and joined the Mountain Empire group in July 2008. Although she practices primarily at Young’s Animal Hospital and Youngs Animal Hospital, she occasionally works at other hospitals with the group as needed. Dr. Martin has a special interest in canine and feline dermatology, internal medicine, and senior patient care. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Martin and her husband Ryan live in Piney Flats with Sophie and George, two cats that she adopted during veterinary school, and Fischer, a Terrier mix who was adopted from the Washington County Animal Shelter. Dr. Martin loves going to the lake, traveling, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
