Nutrition and Diet

Nutritional Counseling

Youngs Animal Hospital offers free weight and nutrition counseling for your dog or cat.  During your pet’s annual preventative health exam, please discuss the various food choices that are best for your pet’s health and condition with our veterinarian.

The food and treats you feed your pet are essential to their health, vitality and longevity.   We know the decision what to feed your pet grows more difficult each day.  There are literally thousands of brands on the market available to the pet food consumer.  Unfortunately, the majority of the marketing of some products is geared towards our human interests rather than what may actually be best for your dog or cat.  We recommend feeding foods from the reputable manufacturers.  For us that means the company also makes veterinary prescription diets.  Their food, as a whole, has more scientific veterinary research behind them to prove they are healthy diets.

Weight Management And Weight Loss

Keeping your pet at a healthy weight is an important part of your pet’s health and vitality.  A pet that is overweight or underweight may be experiencing an illness and may be more susceptible to disease and injury.  Obesity is a complicating factor in heart conditions, arthritis, liver conditions and other ailments.  Youngs Animal Hospital’s goal is to help you keep your pets at a healthy weight.  The most successful weight loss outcomes result from compliance, follow up (i.e., visits, weigh-ins and telephone consultations) and ongoing communication.

Please give us a call today if you would like to talk about your pet’s nutrition, diet or weight management with one of our staff.
